North Korea Nukes: What You May Not Know May 30, 2009

A nuclear armed North Korea is a scary proposition, no doubt about it. But their is a small asterix behind the current “confrontation” with South Korea’s crazy cousin; their nukes suck. Again, any nuke is a bad nuke, but according to the seismic data, North Koreas nukes don’t even come close to a Hiroshima type blast, a bomb we built almost 70 years ago.
In fact, it is highly possible that both of the nukes they have tested either failed to detonate properly or were simply a shit ton of conventional explosives used to fake a nuclear explosion. Of course, it is also possible they detonated the bomb in a large cave to make detecting its true explosive yield hard. To get a sense of how much damagin a nuclear bomb cause only by its explosion (i.e. not counting the nuclear fallout) check out this morbid little Google maps application. My little Kansas town isn’t even fulled destroyed by a 1940’s era bomb.

Their is nothing I can do: giant fucking earthworms are real and as disgusting as you probably imagine them to be. Native to at least South Africa and Ecuador, and sometimes clocking in at a meter in length, giant earth worms luckily only dine on dirt (while simultaneously making it better for plants to grow in). I’m not one to usually freak out over a non-venomous snake or spider, but god damn if these things don’t make my skin crawl.

Some hardcore fans on on the Interent focused the power of the rings to create this surprisingly awesome mock trailer to a future Green Latern movie, with Nathan Fillion donning the green tights. Honestly though, I think Fillion would find a better fit as Captain America.

Best Game From 2007 You Didn’t Play: Earth Defense Force 2017 May 26, 2009

If you missed out on Earth Defense Force 2017 the first time around, don’t feel bad. You, like me, just missed out on exploding skyscraper sized bugs with rocket launchers.
Now, that really should be all the information you need in order to decide whether or not you want to play this game (here’s a hint: YES), but what, theirs more! Pilot tanks and helicopters! Fight giant robots, dinosaurs and robot dinosaurs. Machine guns, shotguns, missiles, grenade launchers and the worlds worst flame thrower round out your arsenal. But perhaps the best part of all is the 2 player couch co-op.
This is one of the best games to pull out and play with non-gamer or semi-gamer friends. Their are only 4 buttons to worry about, infinite ammo and targets the size of tug boats, so even the least competent gamer can have a good time.
And did I mention the roughly translated Japanese dialogue is hilarious? (ex: A plasma cannon of that size cannot possibly exist!)
Its yours for only 18.96!
