The New York Times has a great web feature called “The Year In Ideas” from their magazine (this is the 9th year they’ve done it). Basically it’s just a lot of interesting stuff from a wide range of fields. For example, the picture above is a genetically modified glowing puppy. (Picture was found here).

I’ve been looking for a good experiment to use my old microwave on and I think this one fits the bill. Also, any experiment that uses a blow torch rates highly in my book.

It happens multiple times in the blink of an eye due to surface tension; water droplets actually sit on top of a pool of water. I do wonder if this isn’t just because they are dropping the water very close to the pool instead of hundreds of miles in the air like rain.
